Louisville Seeking Pro Sports Recognition

LOUISVILLE, KY-- Louisville is home to the most significant sports hero of all time, Muhammad Ali, and one of the recognizable sports companies in Hillerich & Bradsby Company which produces the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. In addition, University of Louisville basketball and football are among the most highly accomplished and respected programs throughout the collegiate ranks. Still, for many, Louisville would not be recognized as one of the top twenty and maybe not even thirty sports cities in America. And it's from this passion and frustration the Louisville Firebirds are born. The Firebirds will represent a city fighting its due respect and gratitude on the professional sports scene. 

Louisville is the state of Kentucky's largest metropolitan area, with over 1 million residents calling the area home. Yet, many throughout the country may only view it as a middle-sized town instead of the thriving metropolis to which it is. The Firebirds will join the city's two current professional sports teams in the Minor League Baseball's Louisville Bats and the United Soccer League's Louisville City FC.

A mythical creature, the firebird is a magical bird with golden feathers and crystal eyes that appears in many folk stories. The magic is emphasized by descriptions of the bird, which often refer to its golden or bright feathers and eyes that resemble jewels. The fact that just one of its feathers contains magic suggests the incredible power of the bird. The color gold is used repeatedly in the tales of the firebird to indicate material riches and magical power. Louisville Firebirds' colors are maroon, gold, and white, perfectly fitting into the folk tales of the creature.

Louisville previously was home to a professional sports team in the Louisville Fire of Arena Football 2. The Fire competed for eight seasons and made one league championship game appearance. 

The Firebirds will open the 2023 season on the road against the Pittsburgh Pioneers on Saturday, March 4th.
